At this time, 3 cities enforce mask requirements in Polk County.
Below you’ll find information about mask requirements in Polk County, based on city ordinances.

Winter Haven

On August 10, the Winter Haven City Commission voted unanimously to extend the city’s mandatory mask ordinance. The ORDINANCE requires masks/face coverings inside the City limits consistent with CDC guidelines.

Exemptions in Winter Haven

Exemptions include:

  • children under 8 years old
  • if a medical issue prohibits the wearing of a mask
  • issues regarding ADA compliance
  • persons exercising while social distancing
  • individuals who have an occupation that prohibits a mask
  • those who are eating and drinking
  • those communicating with someone who is hearing impaired
  • when social distancing is practiced

Emergency Ordinance No. O-20-28 went into effect Tuesday, July 14 at 5:00 p.m. and will expire September 15 at 5:00 p.m. unless rescinded and/or extended. The Emergency Ordinance will be enforced in the area inside the incorporated limit of WINTER HAVEN. Non-compliance may result in a fine not exceeding $150.

Lakeland

On August 3, Lakeland City Commission voted in favor of extending the City’s mask ordnance. The original ordinance REQUIRES MASKS/FACE COVERINGS consistent with CDC guidelines for those individuals inside the LAKELAND corporate limits.

Exemptions in Lakeland

Exemptions include:

  • children under 8 years old
  • if a medical issue prohibits the wearing of a mask, issues regarding ADA compliance
  • persons exercising
  • individuals who have an occupation that prohibits a mask
  • social distancing is practiced
  • The new resolution will expire at 5:00 p.m. on September 8. Non-compliance may result in a fine not exceeding $250.

Lake Alfred

City ORDINANCE 1436-20 requires masks within Lake Alfred city limits effective on July 21, 2020. Every person working, living, visiting, or doing business in the City of LAKE ALFRED, Florida, shall wear a face-covering consistent with CDC guidelines in any indoor location, other than their home or residence, when not maintaining social distancing from other persons, excluding family members or companions.

Exemptions in Lake Alfred

Exemptions include persons:

  • observing social distancing in accordance with CDC guidelines
  • for whom a face covering would cause impairment due to an existing health condition
  • under the age of eighteen 18 years old while participating in youth sports
  • exercising, while maintaining social distancing, and persons eating or drinking
  • and children under 8 years old

The Ordinance expires on September 21, 2020, unless it is rescinded and/or extended by further action of the City Commission. Non-compliance may result in a fine not exceeding $150.
